About the role

As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates must attend an in-person recruitment day on Friday, 25 July 2025, at EBC, starting at 9:15 AM. The day will include a series of assessment tasks followed by a formal interview.

For interview candidates to prepare:

1. With reference to the person specification (within the job description), prepare a brief presentation (5 minutes) that you will give to the recruitment panel about who you are and why you'll be good for the role.

  • This task is about demonstrating how well you understand the role you're applying for and how closely your skills, experience, and personality align with what the role is looking for. The "person specification" section of the job description outlines the essential and desirable qualities, skills, and experience needed for the role.  Use the spec as a framework to introduce yourself and highlight how you meet or exceed the criteria.
2. Using resources at your disposal, research and create an engaging, quick fire, cost neutral and fun activity (10 minutes) and be ready to lead and run your activity with the recruitment panel, getting them on their feet and engaged.

  • This task tests your creativity, facilitation skills, and ability to lead a short, engaging session that requires no budget or special materials.  The panel is looking to see how you handle group dynamics, encourage participation, communicate instructions clearly, and keep people engaged and energized.

Examples of activities:

    • A team-building challenge using just chairs, paper, or bodies (e.g., “build a structure” or “group into categories” games).
    • A ‘human bingo’ or fast-paced icebreaker where people move around to find others who meet specific criteria.
    • A problem-solving or lateral thinking challenge that requires cooperation.
    • A story-building game where each person adds a word or sentence in turn, encouraging creativity and active listening.

About the department

ResLifeBU is a student led programme of activities and services focusing on the enablement and development of inclusive and self-supporting student communities within BU’s student accommodation.  As part of BU Estates team we are a multi disciplinary department that create inspirational and sustainable environments in which living within one of our halls of residence can help students thrive.

ResLifeBU has three core aims of providing: inclusive events and activities that assist with the process of social integration; wellbeing information and guidance to assist with the ups and downs of transitioning into university life; and support with the development of the skills required for independent living.

The role of ‘Events and Activities Coordinator’ is an exciting opportunity to join the ResLifeBU team and support the core day-to-day operations, primarily delivering a comprehensive calendar of activities and events across the student halls of residence. Working closely with our accommodation teams, you will be getting involved in all areas of the programme with the planning, promotion and running of events, procurement or resources and management of finances as well as providing administrative support.

This position is available on a fixed-term basis for a period of 12 months.
