About the role

At Bournemouth University, we’re committed to delivering a fair, transparent and student-focused experience. We are seeking an experienced and confident Student Casework Manager to lead our casework function and help ensure our processes are robust, compliant, and student-centred.

This is a key leadership role within Academic Services, responsible for overseeing the University’s student casework activity, including appeals, complaints, and academic offences. You will ensure cases are handled in line with regulations, within deadlines, and to a consistently high standard of professional communication

You will act as BU’s operational lead for the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA), preparing responses and ensuring institutional compliance with external expectations and timescales.

Working closely with the Head of Academic Quality, you’ll also play a central role in shaping policy, improving processes, and delivering insight to senior colleagues through high-quality reporting and analysis.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and managing the Student Casework team, including performance, workload allocation and staff development
  • Acting as the University’s key contact with the OIA, coordinating responses and follow-up actions
  • Developing and reviewing policies, procedures and guidance relating to student casework
  • Ensuring all cases are managed fairly, consistently and within regulatory deadlines
  • Providing expert advice across the University on complex casework and regulatory requirements
  • Producing reports and insights to inform continuous improvement and institutional decision-making
  • Delivering training and briefings to staff to build capability and understanding across BU

About you

You’ll bring strong experience of student casework within Higher Education, alongside a detailed understanding of the regulatory landscape. You’ll be comfortable handling complex cases, interpreting regulations, and making sound, evidence-based decisions.

You will also have:

  • Experience of leading and developing teams in a similar environment
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, with a talent for explaining complex issues clearly and empathetically
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders and influencing across a large organisation
  • A commitment to fairness, integrity, and service excellence

Why join us?

At BU, you’ll be part of a collaborative Academic Services team committed to continuous improvement and delivering for our students. You’ll have the opportunity to shape policy, influence practice, and contribute to a service that really matters.

We’re proud of our inclusive community and welcome applications from all backgrounds.
